It shows where our country is. Too many do not know anything about any one on the ballot so they vote for those they have heard something about, good or bad.

If we continue to talk one way and vote another way, we will never be back in control in Washington. How do we talk about morals with a straight face?

www.independentmail.com/news/2013/apr/29/sanford-colbert-busch-debate-first-time/I think Sanford will win this election. Few will vote and those that do will be the most sophisticated of the primary voters from both parties. No low-information voters going to this poll. On content Sanford will bury Colbert. He did that in 2004 and again in 2008. We interviewed him at the Sentinel. Man-o-man, he has a good grasp of the issues in a way people can understand. The more she debates the worse it will be for her. What a mistake she is making. The only hope is he'll be too aggressive and pull a Rick Lazio v Hillary Clinton. That's not Sanford's style so I think he will win these debates and the election.

No surprise Sanford won. He out muscled her on knowledge of the issues.

Zais not running for re-election does not surprise me. I suspect it is for the same reason Rex served only one term. He runs the state department of education, but doesn't determine the direction public education is heading in. That all comes from the legislature. At Newberry college he ran the school and set the direction. At the SDE he just runs the department. Disallusion I guess.
There must be a balance between the executive (Zais) and the legislative (the state legislature) when it comes to setting the direction. That balance is not there.
Our school board used to be the opposite with the executive or Superintendent 100% setting the direction. Now there is somewhat of a balance with the direction mostly coming from the Superintendent, but the board is involved too. It is more healthy when input comes from both the executive and legislative branches of the government when the course is being set.

1. Do you believe each state-not Congress- should decide for itself whether to allow online gaming and determine how to regulate online gaming in their state? Yes-91 percent; No-9 percent. 2. The S.C. Department of Transportation estimates more than $20 billion is required to fix S.C.’s crumbling roads and bridges. Should gaming laws be modernized to fund the repairs instead of a tax increase? Yes- 80 percent; No- 20 percent. 3. Should medical marijuana be legalized for use in cases of severe, chronic illnesses when documented by a physician? Yes-75 percent; No-25 percent Read more here: www.thestate.com/2014/06/11/3500716/medical-marijuana-no-state-income.html?sp=/99/205/&ihp=1#storylink=cpy

SC's GDP in 2013 was 1.2% or 35th in the nation. It was 1.5% in 2012. Not much. www.bea.gov/newsreleases/regional/gdp_state/gsp_newsrelease.htmRevenue to the state so far for this fiscal year is quite weak, and sign that 2014 starting off much better than 2012 and 2013. Retail sales are up 3.1%. Income tax collections are down 0.6%, corporate collections are down 8.4% and insurance tax revenue is down 10.5%. Those are the top four revenue categories for the state general fund budget. Total revenue was up $22.6 million from July 1 to April 30 on about $5.5 million in collections so far. Not much or 0.4%. Like the national economy, we are getting growth, but it remains sluggish. Also, how much is real growth, without using correct inflation figures, we really don't know.

That's just Tom being Tom. RINO. Backstabber. Front-line leader in the War on Women. One has to wonder what kind of backroom deal was cut and how much money changed hands.
Ervin's entire reason for entering the race as an "Independent" was to convince enough voters he's "conservative" (he's not) to take enough votes from Haley to let Sheheen slip in the backdoor of the Governor's Mansion (you know, the same backdoor Mark Sanford used to slip OUT of.) When he failed to garner more than 4% of voter support in the polls, the next logical step was this final act of desperation.
If the voters of our fine state are actually paying attention to this sham, Nikki Haley will comfortably win another four-year term. If not, we deserve what we get.
It's hardball Democrat politics as usual in South Carolina. I mean, I'm just saying ...

If the 2012 and 2014 elections proved anything, it's that South Carolina, in particular Pickens County has ignorant voters. In 2012 obviously the majority of people in both parties voted straight party tickets based on who they wanted to elect President. That automatically elected anybody at the local level on the Republican ticket, and since in most electuons there were no Democratic candidates, people that voted a straight party Democrat ticket had the effect of not voting. That combination of voter ignorance screwed out the candidates, such as Rex Rice, that got kicked off the ballot in the primary and had to file as petition candidates. That same ignorance reelected Larry Martin after 32 years of Pickens County gradually becoming a notorius bedroom, put B.R. Skelton back in after he was outed in the primary, as well as elected Rick Clark, for whatever that's worth. Believe it or not, a lot of these voters have no clue as to who they helped elect at the local level. Since, as expected, Mitt Romney got South Carolina's 9 electoral votes, but Barrack Obama was reelected anyway, this shows that in Pickens County South Carolina you can ride the coat tails of a loser and win. And sad to say, most likely, there's enough of that ignorance left for 2016.

Obviously you didn't get my message. In 2012, ignorance was defined as voting straight party ANYTHING, RINO or DINO. And by the way, do you know how the Electoral College works? That meant that in South Carolina, no matter how you voted, you had absolutely no effect on the outcome of the Presidential election. To that end, I' m proud to say that I voted for Rex Rice and Gary Johnson. Additionally, as for Pickens County, ignorance can definitely be defined as continuing to vote for somebody getting fat paychecks from Alice while as you should expect, industries with good paying jobs are kept at a significant distance from its mills time, after time, after time for 32 years, whether he or she is a DINO or a RINO. That is, if you're like me and have to get a little grease an dirt under your fingernails to earn a living. By the way, over the course of that 32 years, that person was first a DINO, then a RINO, depending on what he had to be to continue to get reelected. That's because he knew that if he were ever voted out, he was out of that cushy job at Alice. He was fully aware of it, and so was Carroll Campbell.
